Numark iDJ2 to have no nudge??

I’ve been staring at the iDJ2, and noticed there’s no nudge controls… you know, the thing that lets you simulate a spindle-twist or a finger on the platter to momentarily speed up or slow down a track that you’re beatmatching to another track… these are absolutely critical tools to beat matching… in fact, this is a deal-killer for me. So shocked was I to discover this painfully obvious omission, I emailed numark… here’s the reply I got:

Hi Steve,
I do not believe there will be a nudge feature on these though these are still in the early stages of development. I can put this in as a feature request to the engineers to see if this can be implemented.

Sincerely,
Someone at Numark

Oof. To come within 99% of solving all of the criticisms of the original iDJ, and then fall on your face for the last 1%… that’s a shame. I hope someone there has enough political clout to push for one more version of this deck… without nudge, you can have scratch and pitch control, it’s pointless… ok, maybe not completely pointless, but it’s just not going to be taken seriously by people who do know how to beatmatch, and the extra features will probably go unused by people who don’t know how to beatmatch.

For me it comes down to this: No nudge? No sale.
Nonudge

As one of the designers of IDJ2 I’d like to point out, as others have mentioned, that the nudge (momentary pitch shift) feature is implemented on the jog wheels. This is the same as many Numark (and other) CD decks and, for my money, is more useful than a button implementation. The wheels can also be switched into search (fast seek through track) and scratch modes (four variants).

The iDJ2 is a worthless product, DO NOT waste your money on this. The features are great, but the unit is completely unstable, it shut down on me in the middle of a gig, and left me with nothing. It has all kinds of bugs and glitches, and when you contact Numark they say that there is nothing wrong with it, even though it kept freezing, shutting down, etc. Save youself the headache, time, and money, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

IDJ is the stupidest thing ever. Anyone who would use it in an actual gig deserves to be shot, or to die in a fire

what are you talking about, i have 3000 records and i just about smp when i saw this thing and went right out to buy it.

This is it..this is exactly what anyone who has travelled overseas with 100 pounds of overweight records has ever dreamt of.

ok ive been thinking about buying the new idj2 ,
ive browsed around looking for reviews on it, ive even
seen videos of it on youtube and it looks great,
but from the reviews i saw some negative feedback.
people saying that the interface was slow and that it
freezes up on them.. theres one response that ive
seen almost in every forum and review..
some guy saying that it turned off on him
while he was doing a gig..
judging by the fact that ive seen this posted everywhere
either this guy is really mad or its just a lie..
what i want to know is , is this a good product
and are the reviews and rumors about it true
and is it really worth spending $600 on this..

Usually people who emotionally de-credit something so much usually means they probably have no skill and cant match a beat digitally to save there life.
Maybe those wanna be djs should shoot themselves in there own hea,
If you can spin wiht this thing without the use of a computer you have skill.
If you emotionally cry, you are an idiot.
I have had this for 6 months and it has only shut off 2.That is because i over driven the unit

Keep your levels down your good, crank to red lined, it will fallow.

Numark iDJ2 Mobile DJ Workstation with Universal Dock for iPod review by http://www.musicthingz.co.nz :

If you are looking for a product to get into DJing and Mixing this product is perfect. I have had the iDj2 since it came out in early september and i have been very impressed. I am an intermediate level DJ and I do a lot of parties and weddings and the iDJ2 is perfect. This product is perfect for mixing and bumpin the tunes. The External input on the back allows me to hook up my turntable to one side and my CDJ to the other. The mixer on the IDJ2 is very well built and the product is very solid. The jog wheels work perfectly whether you are searching for a part in the song, using the scratch function, or fine tuning pitch. This is the best way to get two decks and mixer all in one, while allowing yourself to be free from hauling cds, computers, and records. All you need is an ipod or a harddrive. I’d say that this is the best product in its class on the market. If you have any questions let me know.

I too have the IDJ2. I have had it now for almost a year. I recently have been having issues with it shutting off during gigs! And you all know how embarrassing this can be. Has anybody else had this issue? Can someone suggest anything to fix it….

  10. Danny:

i have the IDJ2 and i shuts down in the middle of every gig i do.

    it is equally heartbreaking everytime.

i love it, but it does suck.
